  • Before his birth, his father made a bet with a friend that if his beloved team Los Angeles Lakers did not defeat the Detroit Pistons in the 1989 NBA Finals, he would go on to name his son after the Pistons star and the celebrated Lakers nemesis Isiah Thomas. However, Thomas was born before the finals took place and his father had warmed to the name while his mother consented on the condition that the Biblical spelling of “Isaiah” be used for their child. So, he was named Isaiah Thomas.
  • He was nicknamed “Bighead” (or Head) by his father and “Zeke” by his mother.
  • During his time at Curtis High, he played for the varsity basketball team and averaged 31.2 points per game as a junior.
  • On April 20, 2006, Isaiah Thomas announced his intention to sign with the University of Washington.
