- Speaking to BAZAAR.com, Padukone explains that the privacy and proximity to the water were reasons why they chose the venue.

Deepika Padukone may be one of the most famous, most visible women in the world, but for her wedding day, she prioritized privacy. The Bollywood superstar tied the knot with Ranveer Singh in an exclusive, intimate wedding on Lake Como last November, and although they treated their legions of fans to picture-perfect Instagram snapshots after the big day, the festivities were strictly closed off from the public.
The bride and groom chose Villa Del Balbianello as their venue—a lavish, secluded property with elaborate architecture and teeming gardens overlooking the lake. It's a dream wedding location and the perfect spot for Bollywood royalty.
"[Finding] a place that would feel private was the top priority," Padukone tells BAZAAR.com in a new digital cover story. "And we both love the water, so to be surrounded by water was important."
Villa Del Balbianello checked off all the couple's requirements, and then some. The getaway is rich in history, boasting 18th-century architecture, even though it was first constructed as a monastery in the 13th century, according to The Daily Beast.

It's a tourist hot spot, but it's so exclusive that only 15 people can tour the grounds at a time, per the outlet. It's accessible only by a kilometer-long trail from a neighboring town or by boat—paparazzi even photographed Padukone and Singh's wedding guests arriving via water travel last year.
Whatever lengths it took to reach the venue and secure it as the location for the nuptials seem to have paid off. Looking back almost a year later, Padukone says she and Singh are "enjoying every bit" of married life.
